Client: A Subsea OEM
The client approached A Squared for its expertise in complex structural design and advanced numerical analysis. A subsea drilling template required Energy Chains with a steel housing to provide protection and guidance against underwater snags and wave-induced movement, within a minimal space envelope and minimal deflection under wave particle velocities of 5 m/s. Detailed fabrication drawings were required to proceed with construction.
The solution had to be as light as possible while maintaining stiffness under wave action to minimise deflection. A general concept was developed to allow waves to pass through the structure while maintaining adequate stiffness to guide the Energy Chains. Voe Marine, A Squared's strategic partner, took the analysis and developed the concept into fabrication drawings before fabricating the structures.
